There are a number of migration options for people intending to come to Australia for family reasons:

Partner Visa

Partner Migration Program enables Australian citizens, permanent residents or eligible New Zealand citizens, to sponsor their partner, spouse, fiance, defacto to migrate to Australia.

In order to be sponsored, you must either be married, engaged, or in a de-facto relationship with an Australian citizen, permanent resident or eligible New Zealand citizen to be eligible for Partner Migration; over 18 years of age and your relationship with your sponsorship partner must be genuine.

The Department of Immigration and Citizenship click here will require you to provide a range of documentation to demonstrate the nature of your relationship and may request you and your partner to attend an interview.

Parent Visa

Parent visa program includes parent visa and contributory parent visa which may allow you to join with your child/children in Australia.

You must be the parent of an Australian citizen, permanent resident or eligible New Zealand citizen to be eligible for both parent visas. You must also pass the 'balance of family test'. You must satisfy health and character requirements for permanemt entry to Australia.

Other Family Visas

There are also aged dependent relatives, remaining relatives, carers of Australian citizens and New Zealand citizen family relationship visa.

Skilled Migration

The Australian economy is thriving with the unemployment rate at its lowest level over the last thirty years. The Skilled Migration Program is an official Government initiative to overcome skill shortages within the Australian workforce and welcome the skilled migrant who can make a valuable contribution to the economy.

If you are a skilled professional, tradesperson or graduating from an Australian education institutes, you may qualify for the skilled migration program and work in Australia accommodating your partner and family.

There are six (6) main visa subclasses under the Skilled Migration Program:

Permanent Visas

•   Skilled Independent Visa

•   Skilled Sponsored Visa

•   Skilled Regional (Residence) Visa

Applicants are generally assessed against a Points Test system which incorporates the basic selection criteria as well as other factors for which you can obtain additional or bonus points towards your final score. You must achieve the pass mark to be successful.

Temporary Visas

•   Skilled Regional Sponsored Visa

•   Skilled Graduate Visa

•   Skilled Recognised Graduate Visa

You must meet the above criteria and you are required to sign a number of undertakings and in some cases a bond must be paid.

For skilled migration you must:

•   be over 18 and under 45 years of age

•   have good English language ability

•   have recent skilled work experienceunless you have recently completed an eligible Australian qualification

•   have skills and qualifications which appear on the Australian Skilled Occupation List (SOL)

Australia Student Visa Program

Do you want to study in Australia and become a permanent resident?Australia is one of the leading education countries in the world. Over 100,000 international students enter Australia every year.

You may like to study in Australia to gain qualifications and experience to then apply for skilled migration visa and/or become permanent resident.

Before applying for a student visa, you must first be accepted for full time study in a registered course offered at one of Australia's schools, colleges or universities.

You also need to know of which assessment level you are. Assessment Levels are decided by the passport you hold and the course you are studying.

Please check the Australian Overseas Program - Assessment Levels to determine your student visa assessment level. The Assessment levels range between 1 and 5. The higher your assessment level, the greater the degree of evidence is required.
